The turret was ultimately unused, but I had a fun time working on it.
The turret would have extended from the outer wall around the base of Arc Facility. Part of the process was coming up with something that could visually show the player the steps it was taking before firing. The plan was also to see the outer shield opening and the turret extending which is why each version of the turret has multi-stepped shield movement.
Additionally, the idea was to have some sort of visual connection between the targets on the sides of the wall so that when they were shot out by turrets that the player activated, you could see they were being powered down and there for powering down the turret in several steps. What we have in the final game is more streamlined and works better I think in the space and themes of the level/game.
Earlier versions of the turret here I tried combining the shield part with the turret itself but that was not as successful, though we did get the basic shape of the wall itself from these.
You can see part of the turret's shield and the game model of the wall (and more) made by Felix Leyendecker!
